Splash City Golf started in late 2016 in Baltimore when a company hired us to produce a waterfront driving range for their holiday party…with barely any notice! Acting quickly, we sourced a bunch of biodegradable and eco-friendly golf balls. We bought driving range dividers and hitting mats to replicate a traditional driving range. We MacGyvered a floating target with inner tubes and Christmas lights, with a dumbbell acting as the anchor. The event was a massive success! Women in fancy cocktail dresses and men in suits were addicted to hitting these balls at our makeshift target. We even saw one woman hitting balls while wearing stilettos in-between sips of her martini. The pop-up waterfront driving range was born.

How do you hit a golf ball in those shoes?
Since that first event we have been working hard to improve our pop-up driving range concept. Our floating target has evolved from a bunch of inner tubes to a water drone contraption with so much cool technology it would make your engineering and computer science friends blush. Check out the evolution of our floating target and on-land experience below!
2017: This target was made with wood, inner-tubes, and cable ties. It was so heavy!
2017: We cut down the target to make it lighter and easier to deploy. Not bad!
2018/19: We use tech to turn our floating target into a remote control boat. Legit!
2020: The tech is better and the target is much easier to operate. Giddyup!
2022: We opened up the target to allow for more 'hole-in-ones'.
2017: Our little hitting mats move too much at impact. No good!
2018: We switch to regular hitting mats. They are better, but not great on lumpy surfaces.
2019: We create our launch pads to provide a great hitting experience on any surface. However, they become wobbly and dented after heavy use.
2022: We switch to heavy duty mobile staging platforms with adjustable legs. These bad boys can be deployed on any surface and provide a great hitting experience!
